FINE ART PAINTED PORTRAITS IN SARASOTA

Where Photography Becomes a Painting

Sylwia Ok Photography's Painted Portrait collection combines the precision of fine art portrait photography with the texture, depth, and warmth of hand painting - creating wall pieces that are neither photograph nor painting, but something entirely their own.

Created by Master Photographer Sylwia Ok (M.Photog., CPP) using a proprietary process that layers photographic detail with hand-applied paint techniques, each Painted Portrait is a one-of-a-kind commissioned work. No two are the same. No reproductions are made. The piece you receive exists only for your family.

Painted Portraits are available for any subject - families, individuals, children, newborns, dancers, couples, and pets - and are designed from the ground up to fit your specific wall, your existing décor, and the emotional tone you want it to carry.

Your PAINTED PORTRAIT COMMISSION — HOW IT WORKS

A Painted Portrait commission begins with a consultation - a conversation about who or what you want immortalized, the size and scale of the final piece, the color palette and mood that will complement your space, and any creative direction you want to bring.

From there, Sylwia conducts a fully customized portrait session designed specifically for the painted treatment - with lighting, composition, and posing chosen to translate beautifully into the painted medium. After the session, the photographic base is hand-worked with paint techniques that add dimension, atmosphere, and an unmistakable sense that this is art, not just a photograph.

The process takes time - these are not quick turnaround pieces - but the result is something that will anchor every room it enters for generations. Painted Portraits make extraordinary gifts for milestone anniversaries, landmark birthdays, new homes, legacy family portraits, and any occasion that deserves to be marked permanently.

Commissions are accepted on a limited basis. Contact Sylwia to discuss your vision and check current availability.

 FAQs

  • It's both - and that's what makes it unlike anything else. A Painted Portrait begins as a fine art photograph taken during a fully customized portrait session with Sylwia Ok Photography. That photographic base is then hand-worked with paint techniques that add texture, depth, atmosphere, and dimension - transforming the image into something that reads as a painting when you stand in front of it, but retains the precision and likeness of a photograph. The result is a one-of-a-kind commissioned piece that exists at the intersection of two art forms. No filter, no digital effect, no AI - genuine hand painting applied to a genuine fine art photograph.

  • Every Painted Portrait is a one-of-a-kind original. Because the painting is applied by hand to a specific photographic print, no two pieces are identical - and reproductions are not made. The piece you commission exists only for your family. This is what separates a Painted Portrait from a printed photograph or a digitally edited image: it is a singular object, not a file. If you commission a Painted Portrait, you own the only one in existence.

  • Painted Portraits are available for any subject. The most commonly commissioned pieces are family portraits, individual portraits of children at a milestone age, couples portraits for significant anniversaries, and dancer or performer portraits where movement and artistry translate beautifully into the painted medium. Pets are also welcome - either as the primary subject or incorporated into a family portrait. During your consultation, Sylwia will discuss which subjects and compositions will translate most powerfully into the painted format.

  • The process begins with a consultation, a conversation about your vision, the subjects you want immortalized, the size and scale of the final piece, the color palette and mood that suits your space, and any creative direction you want to bring. From there, Sylwia conducts a fully customized portrait session designed specifically with the painted treatment in mind - lighting, composition, and posing are all chosen to translate beautifully into paint. After the session, you select the image or images to be painted. Sylwia then works on the piece over a period of weeks, applying digital paining techniques by hand until the piece reaches the standard of the Painted Portrait collection. The digital paining is then treated with additional oil paint and embellishments strokes. You are presented with the finished work before framing and final delivery.

  • The timeline from session to finished piece depends on the complexity of the commission and Sylwia's current schedule, but most Painted Portraits are completed within ten to twelve weeks of the session. Because each piece is worked by hand over multiple sessions, this is not a process that can be rushed, and the result reflects the time invested. For milestone occasions with a specific deadline, such as a major anniversary or a holiday gift, contact Sylwia as early as possible to discuss whether the timeline is achievable.

  • Painted Portraits are produced in sizes ranging from intimate desk or shelf pieces to large-scale statement wall art, depending on the commission and the intended display space. The photographic base is printed on archival canvas chosen for its receptivity to paint and its longevity. The paints applied are artist-grade, lightfast materials selected to remain stable for generations. Every piece is finished and prepared for framing or hanging. Framing recommendations and options are discussed during your consultation.

  • Painted Portrait commissions are custom-priced based on the size and complexity of the piece, the session involved, and the materials selected. Because no two commissions are the same, pricing is discussed during a complimentary consultation rather than offered as a fixed menu. What you can expect is that a Painted Portrait represents a significant investment - one that reflects the time, artistry, and materials involved in creating a one-of-a-kind heirloom. If you'd like to understand the range before booking a consultation, Sylwia is happy to have that conversation by phone or email.

  • In some cases, yes - but with important caveats. Because the painted treatment is applied to a physical print, the quality of the photographic base is critical. Sylwia will review any existing image you're considering and give you an honest assessment of whether it has the resolution, lighting, and composition to serve as the foundation for a Painted Portrait. In most cases, a dedicated session produces significantly better results because the lighting and posing are designed specifically for the painted medium from the start. A consultation is the best first step to determine which approach is right for you.

  • A Painted Portrait is one of the most meaningful gifts imaginable — because it is both a portrait of someone the recipient loves and a work of art in its own right. The occasions that tend to generate the most powerful commissions are milestone anniversaries (25th, 40th, 50th), significant birthdays, the birth of a first grandchild (commissioned by grandparents), retirement gifts, and legacy family portraits capturing multiple generations. They are also among the most meaningful things a parent can commission of a child at a specific age - a record of exactly who that child was, rendered in a medium built to outlast everything digital.

  • The portrait session that forms the basis of a Painted Portrait is conducted in Sylwia Ok Photography's commercial studio in Lakewood Ranch Corporate Park, where lighting and environment can be precisely controlled for the painted treatment. In select cases, on-location sessions are possible when the creative concept specifically calls for it - this is discussed during your pre-commission consultation. For Sarasota-area clients, complimentary wall art installation is available once the finished piece is delivered.

  • Both Black Label and Painted Portraits represent the pinnacle of what Sylwia Ok Photography offers, but they are distinct in what they produce. Black Label sessions create cinematic, large-format fine art photographs - images of extraordinary visual drama and retouching depth, printed on heirloom materials and displayed as photography. Painted Portraits go one step further: they begin as photographs and are then physically transformed by hand painting into something that exists between mediums. If you want an extraordinary photograph, Black Label is for you. If you want something that reads as a painting - a singular, handmade object - a Painted Portrait is for you. Many clients who experience one eventually commission the other.
